Who We
Are In 1994 a group of Native Hawaiians formed the Anahola Homesteaders Council (AHC). The AHC is a 501c3 non-profit corporation whose mission is to provide a better quality of life for Native Hawaiians living on homestead land in Anahola, Kaua'i. Anyone interested in becoming a member can call the Anahola Homesteaders Council Learning Center at (808) 823-0927. The AHC believes that Native empowerment will bring about self-sustainability for Hawaiians here in Anahola. We have been actively pursuing an economic plan through collaborative partnerships and working with a volunteer board of advisors and consultants. This group includes state community planners, architectural and engineering professionals, elderly care providers, teachers, business professionals and Native cultural specialists. Since 1994 AHC has been working to develop a Multi-Purpose Community Center to include but not be limited to:
On December 11, 2002 the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) awarded a license agreement for a 20 acre site for Project Faith. The AHC continues to seek funding and collaborative support for Project Faith's Multi-Purpose Community Center. The AHC has received two grants from the Administration of Native Americans for the preliminary strategic planning. Project Faith was selected the top site for the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Brownfields Assessment Award. AHC is in the process of clearing the 20 acre Project Faith site. The Brownsfield Clean-up Award will help with the site preparation. We are also begining an Environment Impact Study for the Anahola area. Most recently the AHC received a grant from the Office of Environmental Justice to create a "living web document" of our community plan. Who Are:
